Position Summary

The Tool and Die Maker oversees the design, production, maintenance, and repair of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. This role involves ensuring adherence to production schedules and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. The ideal candidate has extensive technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Tool and Die Fabrication

  • Design, build, and assemble tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Schedule and assign work, monitor progress.
  • Operate manual and CNC machining equipment, such as lathes, mills, and grinders to fabricate components.
  • Conduct precision measurements to ensure tools and dies meet tight tolerances.

Tool and Die Maintenance

  • Ensure the proper functioning and longevity of tools and dies by implementing preventive maintenance programs.
  • Review and approve tooling designs and specifications to meet production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tooling, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules.

Production Support

  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to optimize tooling for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to tooling processes to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and manufacturing standards during tooling operations.

Quality Control

  • Verify the accuracy of tools and dies using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines).
  • Ensure all tools and dies meet industry standards and company quality requirements.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of tool and die production, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Update tooling drawings and documentation as needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to improve tooling performance, reduce lead times, and enhance product quality.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in tool and die manufacturing.

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations while operating equipment and handling materials.
  • Ensure tools and dies comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Certification or apprenticeship in Tool and Die making or a related.

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with CNC and manual machining.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques, materials, and tooling principles.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs.
  • Hands-on experience with precision measuring tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight tolerances.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility.
  • Must be able to quickly traverse manufacturing areas.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, push, pull walk and stand for a long periods of time
