Position Summary

The CNC Set-Up / Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machinery to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and established quality standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to independently perform machine setups while maintaining production, safety, and quality requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including loading programs, tooling, fixtures, and materials.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and specifications.
  • Review CNC programs and make appropriate adjustments to offsets, feeds, speeds, and tooling as needed.
  • Load and unload raw materials and finished components safely and efficiently.
  • Install and adjust cutting tools, workholding fixtures, and other machine accessories.
  • Verify first-piece and in-process dimensions using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and gauges.
  • Make necessary machine adjustments to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Monitor machine operation and identify unusual sounds, vibration, tool wear, or other potential problems.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventative maintenance as required.
  • Inspect completed parts to ensure they meet drawing specifications and quality requirements.
  • Identify and communicate quality issues, machine problems, material shortages, and production delays to the appropriate supervisor or Production Engineer.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and downtime records.
  • Follow established work instructions, standard operating procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company 5S standards.
  • Properly handle and identify materials, tooling, fixtures, and finished parts.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machining and process issues.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aimed at improving safety, quality, productivity, and machine efficiency.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including proper use of PPE and machine guarding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous CNC machining, setup, or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and basic GD&T.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, feeds, speeds, and offsets.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and measurements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility.
  • Must be able to quickly traverse manufacturing areas.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, push, pull walk and stand for a long periods of time
