Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive, goal-oriented, and data-driven Production Planner to lead production planning activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role requires a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in production planning, manufacturing operations, or production control and is not an entry-level position. The Production Planner is expected to operate independently, take ownership of the production plan, anticipate risks, and drive execution without waiting for direction.

The position serves as a central coordination point between Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and Logistics to ensure on-time delivery, efficient resource utilization, and smooth production flow.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer demand, forecasts, inventory levels, and capacity constraints.
  • Translate sales orders and forecasts into executable production plans and work orders.
  • Continuously evaluate production capacity, labor availability, and equipment constraints to balance workloads and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Proactively adjust schedules in response to changes in demand, material availability, equipment downtime, or staffing constraints.

Proactive Operations Ownership

  • Identify risks, gaps, and constraints before they impact production or customer delivery.
  • Drive planning actions independently rather than waiting for direction, anticipate what needs to be done next.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to align production plans with business priorities, throughput goals, and service level expectations.
  • Hold planning activities accountable to clear targets for on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and capacity utilization.

Data-Driven Planning & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor production progress, work-in-process (WIP), and schedule adherence using data and performance metrics.
  • Prepare and analyze production performance reports, including on-time delivery, schedule adherence, capacity utilization, and inventory impact.
  • Use data and trend analysis to drive continuous improvement in planning accuracy, throughput, and inventory management.
  • Maintain accurate and reliable production planning data within ERP/MRP systems and planning tools.

Expectations (Critical)

The successful candidate will:

  • Operate proactively.
  • Be goal-oriented and execution-focused.
  • Use data and metrics to guide decision and priorities.
  • Anticipate issues before they impact production or delivery.
  • Take ownership of outcomes and follow through to resolution.
  • Act as a trusted planning partner to Operations leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in production planning, scheduling, production control, manufacturing operations, or logistics.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, capacity planning, and material coordination.
  • Proven ability to translate demand into executable production plans in dynamic environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing condition.
  • Clean and effective written and verbal communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Epicor, similar).
  • Background in high-mix, high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement principles.
  • Experience coordinating planning activities across multiple departments or shifts.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility.
